Women's Viscose Shorts — Loose-fit and Fitted

Women's shorts at Oh!Zuza are short, fabric models made of viscose in two styles: loose-fit with wide legs and fitted with a rounded hemline. These are not jeans, not sweatpants, and not sports fabric – this is soft, matte viscose that drapes freely on the figure and does not resemble home tracksuits or stiff formal shorts. The cut determines the character: loose-fit works well on hot days and for walks, while fitted is perfect for a cozy afternoon at home and evening relaxation.

The loose-fit style features wide legs, front pleats, side pockets, and a smooth front waistband with elastic hidden at the back. This ensures that the short women's shorts lie flat on the stomach while still allowing freedom at the waist. It's a solution for women who don't want to choose between the aesthetic of a simple waistband and the comfort of an elasticated one.

The fitted style belongs to the Loungewear series – it has a discreet mesh stripe on the side, lined with knit fabric, slanted pockets, piping, and a wide elastic waistband. The cut is closer to the body, the length is short, and the rounded hemline subtly shortens the thigh line without a sharp cut-off.

Both styles pair well with the rest of your wardrobe. The loose-fit women's shorts go with trendy women's tops in a matching shade, while the fitted ones complement more structured tops. If you're looking for a longer version of the same cut, check out our women's viscose trousers – it's the same fabric philosophy, just in a version for the entire transitional season.

Are shorts and "spodenki" the same thing?

Shorts and "spodenki" are the same thing – short trousers ending above or around the knee. "Szorty" (shorts) is a Polonized version of the English word "shorts", while "spodenki" is the descriptive Polish name. In the Oh!Zuza store, the collection is called "Spodenki", and individual models often have the word "szorty" in their titles – however, it is still the same assortment, not two different products.

In practice, customers use both names interchangeably. Someone might write "women's plus size shorts", someone else "short women's spodenki" – they will find the same items. The name does not change the cut, fabric, or length. If a product description says "szorty" and the category is "spodenki", it refers to the same item.

Sometimes, the word "szorty" is associated more with holidays, while "spodenki" is associated with home comfort or children's clothing. These are just linguistic associations. Short, fabric women's "spodenki" from Oh!Zuza work just as well outside the home as they do inside – for a walk, on the terrace, or during a lazy afternoon.

The practical difference lies elsewhere than in the name. The cut matters: wide women's shorts with loose legs wear completely differently from a fitted style, even though both end at a similar height. Therefore, when choosing, it's worth looking at the description of the cut and fabric, not at which word the store used in the category name.

Short women's shorts and figure — what slims you down

Material women's shorts with a looser cut, slightly flared leg, and a length that ends mid-thigh — not right below the buttocks and not right above the knee — are optically slimming. Such a cut does not cut off the widest part of the thigh and does not shorten the leg. The material also matters: matte viscose drapes softly and does not emphasize, unlike stiff fabrics and shiny knits.

For wider hips, it's worth opting for loose-fit women's shorts with front pleats – the pleats add volume where the fabric already needs to be loose, and at the same time draw attention away from the hip line. A flat front waistband with elastic only at the back looks neat, not "scrunchy," and doesn't create wrinkles on the stomach.

For a slimmer figure, fitted shorts with a rounded hemline look good – they add softness and roundness. For shorter women, it's worth making sure that the bottom of the shorts ends higher than mid-thigh – a "mid-thigh" length will look different on a woman who is 160 cm tall than on one who is 172 cm tall, and can optically shorten the leg.

Color works the same way as in any other item of clothing: darker shades slim, lighter shades add volume. This is a simple rule, but it's worth remembering when choosing shorts where the waist and hips are in the same line.

Women's shorts for women over 50 and 60

Women's shorts for women over 50 and 60 are most often models with a looser cut, ending around mid-thigh, made of soft fabric that does not cling to the body. Age does not preclude wearing shorts – it only precludes a cut that is uncomfortable or ill-fitting. Women of any age can wear short shorts if they choose a style that suits them, not a seasonal trend.

In the collection, shorts with an elastic waistband, front pleats, and wider legs work well. The elastic at the back and smooth front offer comfort without the tracksuit aesthetic – these shorts look neat for a walk, on the terrace, and in the city. Side pockets are practical, and the length doesn't have to be very short for the style to still be light and summery.

The material also makes a difference. Viscose is soft, breathable, and doesn't cling to the skin in higher temperatures. This is important when thermoregulation can be less stable than before – a fabric that doesn't stick to your legs is simply more comfortable to wear all day long.

These shorts pair well with looser blouses, viscose shirts, and classic loafers or flat sandals. The ensemble can be complemented with a longer cover-up from the women's clothing category – this ties the look together and ensures that the short shorts are not the only length accent.

Shorts sizes from XS to 4XL

Oh!Zuza shorts are available in sizes from XS to 4XL, on a standard grid – each size is a separate item, not a double S/M or 2XL/3XL. The loose-fit line, with wide legs, goes up to XXL. The fitted line, Loungewear, goes up to 4XL – there you will find women's plus size shorts in the same sizing we use throughout the brand.

Below are the measurements from the size chart. Waist and hips are given in centimeters, measured on the body (not on the product):

  • XS – waist 64–68, hips 88–92
  • S – waist 68–72, hips 92–96
  • M – waist 72–78, hips 96–102
  • L – waist 78–84, hips 102–108
  • XL – waist 84–92, hips 108–116
  • XXL – waist 92–100, hips 116–122
  • 3XL – waist 100–108, hips 122–130
  • 4XL – waist 108–116, hips 130–138

When choosing a size, refer to your hip circumference – this is the widest point in this type of cut and it determines whether the shorts will fit well. The waist in both lines has elastic, so it provides some margin. If your measurements fall between sizes, for loose models you can choose a smaller size (the cut is wide anyway), for fitted models – a larger size, for sitting comfort.

Sizing is consistent across batches. When you buy an M in one season, you also reach for an M in the next – you don't have to verify each time if "this M" is larger or smaller than the previous one.

Women's fabric shorts — homewear and going out

Women's fabric shorts from the Loungewear line are designed as homewear – day-to-day clothing in which you can spend an afternoon, receive a courier, and go out onto the terrace without changing. The cut is fitted, the length is short, the viscose fabric with a polyester blend is soft, but more wrinkle-resistant than pure viscose.

Short women's shorts from this line have a wide elastic waistband and slanted pockets, so they don't constrict at the waist even after prolonged sitting. The side mesh stripe lined with knit fabric is a detail that distinguishes them visually and elevates the entire style. They can be worn with a classic T-shirt, a thin sweatshirt, or a light top – creating an outfit in which you can comfortably open the door for a courier.

The loose-fit Echo line leans more towards going out. Wide women's shorts with pleats and a matte fabric with a slightly linen-like feel – a viscose fabric resembling linen, although it contains no linen – look good paired with sandals, a simple top, and a canvas bag. It's worth pairing them with trendy women's trousers as an alternative for cooler evenings on the same day.

If your wardrobe still lacks a layer for cool mornings, women's leggings for autumn fit well into this ensemble, when the shorts return to the drawer for a few months. It's the same philosophy of comfort, just in a different length.

Washing and durability of viscose shorts

Wash viscose shorts at 30 °C, on a delicate cycle. Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry clean. Iron at a low temperature, preferably inside out. This set of rules applies to both lines of shorts at Oh!Zuza – loose-fit (85% viscose, 15% nylon) and fitted (70% viscose, 30% polyester).

Viscose is a natural fabric, made from wood cellulose. It has a soft feel, breathes well, and drapes beautifully, but it does not like high temperatures or intensive spinning. Too hot washing and tumble drying are the two most common reasons why viscose shorts lose their shape. By sticking to 30 °C and drying flat or on a hanger, you will keep them in shape much longer.

After washing, it's a good idea to gently smooth out the shorts with your hand and hang them by the waistband so that the leg falls freely. Viscose largely smooths itself out during drying – ironing is usually quick, at a temperature suitable for delicate fabrics. If the fabric is slightly damp, it irons even more easily.

The collection is sewn in our own workshop in Łódź. When something in the cut requires adjustment – waist circumference, rise height, pocket depth – we change it for the next batch, without seasonal distance between concept and execution. Thanks to this, shorts that return the following year have the same sizing and proportions as the previous ones. The Loungewear line has an Oeko-Tex certificate – the fabric has been tested for the presence of substances harmful to the skin.

FAQ

Are shorts and "spodenki" the same thing?

Yes, they are the same thing - short trousers ending above the knee. "Szorty" is a Polonized version of the English word "shorts", while "spodenki" is the Polish name. At Oh!Zuza, the collection is called "Spodenki", and the word "szorty" appears in product titles - however, it is still one assortment.

What shorts for women over 50?

Loose-fit women's shorts with an elastic waistband, mid-thigh length, and wider legs are best. Soft viscose doesn't cling to the body, and front pleats and a smooth waistband add a neat appearance. Age doesn't rule out shorts – it only rules out a cut that is uncomfortable.

Which shorts are slimming?

Loose-fit women's shorts with slightly flared legs, mid-thigh length, in a matte fabric and darker color, are optically slimming. A cut that doesn't cut off the widest part of the thigh and doesn't end right below the buttocks lengthens the leg and doesn't emphasize the hips.

What material shorts for summer?

For summer, women's fabric shorts made of breathable fabrics with a natural feel are best. Viscose breathes well, doesn't cling to the skin in higher temperatures, and drapes lightly – which is why at Oh!Zuza, we make shorts from it.

What shorts are fashionable now?

Two cuts consistently look good: loose-fit shorts with pleats and wider legs, and fitted shorts with an elastic waistband and a rounded hemline. Both styles return every season, regardless of microtrends. The choice between them is more a matter of figure and wearing style than current fashion.

How to wash viscose shorts?

Wash at 30 °C, on a delicate cycle, without bleach. Do not tumble dry or dry clean. Iron at a low temperature, preferably inside out. Dry flat or hang by the waistband – viscose then retains its shape well.
